Dan desperate to leave Wigan Athletic on a high

The big centre-back has yet to kick a ball in anger this term after breaking a foot in the last pre-season friendly at Rangers back in July.

Since then, of course, he’s signed for Premier League Brighton, and been loaned back to Latics until January.

And he’s going all-out to ensure his final few months at the DW Stadium are every bit as enjoyable – and successful – as the vast majority of his Latics career.

“I’m determined to fight my way back in when I’m fit again,” Burn told the Wigan Post.

“I’m certainly not here to sit back with my feet up and wait for January.

“I want to be playing in every game, and the second I’m ready I’ll be doing everything I can to do that.”

Burn hopes to be back in contention for a place later this month, having been given the green light to move the protective boot from his foot last weekend.

However, he accepts he will have to fight every inch of the way to regain his spot at the heart of the Latics defence, with new-boy Cedric Kipre having impressed alongside the reliable Chey Dunkley.

“Cedric’s been really brilliant since he’s come in,” acknowledged Burn.

“He’s getting all the plaudits just now, and rightly so.

“I think the lads at the back have done really well to be fair.

“Obviously it takes a little bit of time to find your feet as a new player, getting to know the other lads.

“It was exactly the same when I arrived here, and it is hard at first to learn what the other players like to do in games, different movements and so on.

“I’ve been really impressed with Chey as well.

“He’s really made the step up to the Championship with no bother at all.”
