The 20-year-old from the Isle of Man joined Latics in 2017, having previously played for St George’s AFC.

He made his senior debut in October 2017 in the EFL Trophy before spending last season in the National League on loan at Notts County.

This campaign, Long has featured regularly prior to picking up a slight ankle injury at Rochdale last weekend.

“We brought Adam over as a 16-year-old from the Isle of Man and we knew it would take him time to settle into the new environment," said Head of Academy Gregor Rioch.

“He is developing into a fine young man who is really maturing well as a person as well as a footballer.

“This new contract is an achievement both Adam and his parents can be really proud of - it is a reward for his hard work to get to the level he has.

“Adam benefited from his loan spell at Notts County and he is certainly improving and developing with each match he plays in the first team.

“We’re really proud of Adam’s progress, but he knows this is just the start.

"He needs to continue to show the commitment and dedication that has got him this far.”
