The 25-year-old has pledged financial support to Barnet, who this week announced that a number of staff have been served notice following the postponement of fixtures in English football during the coronavirus pandemic.

Barnet manager Darren Currie - although he didn’t know Lowe personally - revealed the generous gesture which he said had earned his 'respect'.

“There is nothing quite like a kind gesture,” Currie tweeted.

“A friendly face, a reassuring cuddle even, times like this good people deserve credit.

Jamal Lowe has just offered financial support to our academy in the wake of recent news.

"I don’t know you personally but you have my respect.”

Lowe came through the Barnet academy almost a decade ago, starring for the under-18 team before making his first-team debut in 2012.

He played 15 first team games for Barnet before moving on to Hemel Hempstead Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough and then Portsmouth.

Lowe’s goals for Pompey helped the club win the League Two title in 2017, before he followed Paul Cook to Wigan last summer.
