The 74-year-old has kept his own counsel since making public his desire to lead a 'Wigan Sporting Partnership' on July 7, less than a week after Latics were placed into administration.

Since then he's remained a background figure as several other bidders have jostled for position, before a Spanish-led bid was accepted by the administrators on September 30.

Lenegan has been approached by Wigan Today for comment several times, only to decline the opportunity - possibly due to the terms of a NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

But speaking to the Warriors own in-house TV channel, Lenagan lifted the lid on his repeated attempts to broker a deal for their DW Stadium stablemates.

"Over the last three months, I personally have spent an enormous amount of effort on Wigan Athletic," said Lenagan.

"I've tried to find support for them, tried to help bring them out of administration, tried to protect us in terms of the DW Stadium.

"We put three separate bids in during that period, and we've universally supported Latics, for them to get back in the league and get support."
