Kieffer is 'Chief' Wigan Athletic threat, admits former strike partner

Kieffer Moore has been earmarked as the biggest threat to Barnsley tomorrow - by the man who used to feed the Wigan Athletic striker before his move to the DW.

Cauley Woodrow shared a 38-goal partnership last season with Moore - who also bagged 19 - as the Tykes won promotion to the Championship.

The partnership was broken up last summer, however, when Latics snapped up the Wales international, 'nicknamed 'Chief', for around £2.5million.

And Woodrow knows Barnsley will have to keep a close eye on their former target man in a real six-pointer at Oakwell.

“We had a great partnership," acknowledged Woodrow. "He’s a good striker and a great lad.

“He will be a big threat with his height and physical presence.

"But hopefully our lads at the back can keep him quiet.”

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber didn't want to lose Moore, and knows full well the damage he can inflict.

“He is a very good striker who's had a big impact for Wigan in the last few games," said Struber.

“But we have very good defenders and it will be a big fight.

"Wigan also have other very interesting players.

“What fans do with Kieffer Moore on social media, is not a big topic for me.”

The game has taken on added significance, with Latics' looming 12-point deduction dropping them to one place and one point below the Tykes in the table.

“It’s a must-win but all season it’s been the same story," added forward Woodrow.

“We had a long run without winning, and we’ve always been chasing since then, so every game has been really important.

"We could have been relegated a long long time ago, and teams probably thought we would be.

"But we have given ourselves a massive chance.

“And we don’t want to rely on a team getting points deducted to keep us up.”
