Latics deny knowledge of Stubbs claim

Wigan Athletic have '˜denied all knowledge' of claims from ex-Rotherham and Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs that he is to join the management team at the DW Stadium this summer.

The bizarre statement was made by Stubbs’ solicitor this week during a court appearance in Sheffield, for speeding offences.

Frank Rogers, representing Stubbs, told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court his client had been interviewed by a ‘Lancashire-based club relegated to the old third division’, and was likely to start with them by June 1.

But the Wigan Post understands that club is not Latics, who have denied all knowledge of Stubbs’ claim.

Latics chairman David Sharpe revealed last month he would be looking to appoint a permanent successor to Warren Joyce by ‘the end of May, beginning of June’.

Former bosses Gary Caldwell and Uwe Rosler and believed to be on the shortlist, along with Luton manager Nathan Jones and Oxford chief Michael Appleton.
