Latics looking for '˜a certain kind of person' - Barrow

Barrow’s interim reign came to an end at the weekend, with the 1-1 draw against Leeds at the DW completing a miserable season that ended in relegation back to League One.

The first priority for chairman David Sharpe is to identify a new permanent manager to hopefully oversee another promotion push next term.

And 62-year-old Barrow knows it’s an appointment that has to be got right.

“It takes a certain kind of person to manage Wigan Athletic,” said Barrow.

“Leeds have their own identity, Norwich do...even Manchester United, the biggest club in the country have their own identity, thanks to Alex Ferguson.

“This club’s always had a thing where people close to the club have been most successful.

“Uwe Rosler probably broke that mould, although he had a few of us here to support him.

“In fairness to Uwe, he was always open to letting other people work, and getting involved on the training pitch. But the most important thing is that the next appointment is right – it doesn’t take a genius to work that out.”

Rosler remains in the frame for a return, and would be available with Fleetwood’s play-off bid having ended on Sunday.

Other names being mooted are fellow ex-Latics boss Gary Caldwell, Michael Appleton (Oxford) and Nathan Jones (Luton).
