Will Grigg is brought down during Latics' clash with Bolton on Saturday

The social media reaction to Wigan Athletic’s derby day draw at Bolton Wanderers.

Latics and Bolton split the spoils in the sides’ first meeting in three years after Will Grigg’s well-taken penalty cancelled out Will Buckley’s early opener.

Wigan had a nightmare start at the University of Bolton Stadium when Will Buckley scored in the sixth minute to give the hosts an early lead.

But Will Grigg got the Latics back level in the 25th minute after he stepped up confidently to put away the spot-kick that he won.

Following Saturday’s one-all draw, Latics remained in 15th place after gaining their first point away from home since August.

Bolton Wanderers did temporarily move up a place to 22nd, but after Millwall’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Sunday afternoon, Phil Parkinson’s side dropped back down to 23rd.

Latics fans were satisfied with a point on social media as they finally ended their run of eight consecutive league defeats on the road.

@JoeWinstanley88: “Disappointed with that to be honest. Should be beating them! End product letting us down too many times! Positive is a point away from home but should have won that! #WAFC.”

@tomprescott94: “Not the worst result in the world considering our awful away form. Unbeaten in 3. We’re doing alright, just keep plodding away #wafc.”

@AS_caspey: “Draw probably fair. We had the better chances and should've worked the keeper. Still, didn't lose to them, didn't lose away, so I'll take that #wafc.”

@CraigArrow92: “Take a point away to bolton, wigan were the better side throughout the game just couldn't grab the winner #WAFC.”

@mattlatics: “Postives: we've stopped the rot away from home and we're actually creating chances in games for a change. 5 points from 9 isn't bad at all considering how rubbish November was #wafc.”

@MurphyWigan : “Good result that. Was important not to get beat today. #wafc.”

@DaveWhittaker94: “5 points from 3 games in the space of a week, 2 of which against local rivals, I’ll absolutely take that. Up The Tics #wafc.”

@shez_latic: “A good point really. Ended the dreadful away run. I’d have taken that before the game.”

@TheWiganMon: “Two points dropped, very poor side them.”

@laticschief: “In all seriousness though, there’s nowt positive about drawing with them. No matter how you try and spin it.”

@AidanCampbell_: “Decision making in the final third let us down yesterday otherwise would’ve had 3 points convincingly. #wafc.”

Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers fans were aggrieved on social media that they was not given a late penalty for Morsy’s alleged hand-ball.

@BeejMcGillashaw: “We scored and we didn't lose. It's like a win #bwfc.”

@Jasonwalker95: “Was on the other side of the pitch for both sides penalty shouts. Wigan's seemed soft. Looked like he got the ball. Our's seemed stonewall. Hands up in the air. Refs decisions aside, we were very poor again. Nothing in midfield #bwfc.”

@JohnS_72: “Fairly even game and Wigan probably had the better opportunities tbf but there's no getting away from the penalty and non-penalty decisions that went against us and ultimately cost us. Referee and linesman were a disgrace #bwfc.”

@DavidEntwistle7: “A good bit of defending and a huge penalty shout for handball, it clearly hit the Wigan defenders hand!! #BWFC. Two huge decisions gone against us today.”

@IanRowboti04: “Lets be honest lads and lasses. Nobody knows if it was a pen or not because it's difficult to tell. And the replay is inconclusive. We all know it wasn't handball for Beevers pen about though. #bwfc.”
