GARY Caldwell is hoping of having Wigan Athletic’s strike duo Craig Davies and Will Grigg back sooner rather than later.
Both Davies and Grigg were surprise absentees from the side that beat Fleetwood 2-1 at the weekend to move up to within touching distance of the play-off picture.
With Haris Vuckic also out with an ankle problem, it left young Jordy Hiwula as the only recognised senior striker.
But Caldwell has moved to calm fears Latics could be left short in a significant position for too long.
“Craig had a slight hamstring on Thursday,” revealed Caldwell.
“He’s someone who’s had hamstring problems before, and we have to be careful with him.
“But it’s nothing major, it’s a slight strain, and we’ll manage him as the week goes on.
“Will has ruptured two ligaments in his elbow, a freak injury, but again not as bad as we first feared.
“He’s managed to do some non-contact training on Saturday and hopefully he’ll be available soon as well.
“Maybe that could be with a strapping or an injection and he might be allowed to play.”
Caldwell felt the way Latics coped with the absence of several key players - at short notice - was hugely pleasing.
“On Thursday we were working on playing another way, and we had to change that on Friday,” he added.
“But the way we controlled the ball and played out from the back, against a team that was clearly set up to press us, was great.”
