GARY Caldwell will take another look at midfielder John Lundstram in tomorrow’s friendly at Dundee after he played as a trialist for Wigan against Partick.
The 21-year-old is without a club after he was released by Everton at the end of last season and he started the 1-1 win at Firhill before coming off at half-time.
Two other Goodison players – JonJoe Kenny and Junior Francisco – also made the first XI after arriving from Merseyside on month-long loans.
Former England under-20 international Lundstam has had a series of loan spells in recent years at Doncaster, Yeovil, Leyton Orient (twice), Blackpool and Scunthorpe.
Although he was relatively quiet in Glasgow, Latics boss Caldwell will keep the youngster with his squad for the rest of the week.
He said: “John is with us for the trip to Scotland and it’s good to have Junior and JonJoe as well.
“They will obviously work with the players in training and in the game on Friday and that will allow them to build more of an understanding and grow into the club.
“Coming from Everton, they’re all coming from a great club that brings kids up playing the right way and also creating good characters.
“John has trained with us over the last couple of days and the other two came in ahead of the game so they’re very new to the group but they’ll integrate quickly.”
Another player Caldwell continues to show interest in is former Cardiff full-back Kevin McNaughton and he has also travelled north of the border. He played in the 2-0 win over Southport at the weekend and although he stayed on the bench at Partick, Wigan now appear to be front runners to land him.
Caldwell added: “Kevin played on Saturday and did very well but with his leg break and him coming back from that, he’s not had a lot of training.
“We don’t want to run him into the ground and the medical staff just felt it would be better if he rested then started on Friday.”
