GARY Caldwell is still hoping to bolster his squad as transfer deadline day looms – and could add up to three players to his squad.
But the Latics boss insists he will only fork out for quality additions ahead of next Tuesday’s deadline, insisting his panel only needs ‘finishing touches’.

Caldwell has faced the huge task of effectively building a new squad this summer following Latics’ relegation to League One at the end of last term, and with the job largely done, admits he hasn’t got specific names in mind.
“The club and myself are working hard and hopefully we’ll get two or three new faces in,” he said.
“Everyone behind the scenes is working really hard to do that.
“As I’ve said before, if it’s somebody who is going to make us better and make us stronger then we’ll definitely try and do it.”
Caldwell praised staff at the club for burning the midnight oil during a transfer window which has also had fans putting in extra research to recognise all the new players to cheer on come match day.
And with the season underway, the boss has set out his criteria for any more potential signings.
“Over the summer we did a tremendous job of building a team because it’s not easy to build a whole new team, which is effectively what we’ve done,” he explained.
“Now I think it’s just in key areas and key players which are going to make us better.
“It’s nothing specific – it’s more, ‘What is out there, what is available, what will make us better?’
“If so, can we do it? That’s what we’re looking at now.
“The summer was very difficult. It would have been for any club and I think we have to take a lot of credit for the way we’ve done that.”
