GARY Caldwell admits he was spoilt for choice after naming Craig Morgan as Wigan Athletic’s new club captain.
Latics required a new leader following the summer departures of James Perch and Emmerson Boyce.
And Caldwell plumped for Morgan ahead of fellow centre-back Jason Pearce - although he says there wasn’t much between them.
“Craig’s going to be the captain, Pearcey’s going to be the vice-captain,” Caldwell revealed.
“They’re both leaders, both great guys to have around, the way they handle themselves around the training ground.
“I’m really glad to have both of them, but Craig’s someone who really impressed me from the first moment I met him.
“Since he’s been here he’s been absolutely brilliant and he’ll be the club captain.”
Caldwell also played down the novelty of naming a skipper who has yet to play an official game for the club.
“It’s practically a new squad, so it was probably always going to be someone we’d brought in who would be captain,” added the Latics chief.
