Former Wigan boss Martinez could be next manager of Real Madrid

Former Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is a shock contender for the manager's job at Real Madrid according to a national newspaper.

In a report on the Daily Star website Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri reckons Julen Lopetegui has taken charge of his last game for the club.

And he says Belgium manager Martinez and Real's youth team coach Santiago Solari are contenders for the job.

Antonio Conte, who left Chelsea in the summer, is also being considered, but will prove a more expensive option for the defending European champions.

Palmeri wrote on Twitter: "Solid rumours that Lopetegui will have free Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday, and so on. Solari and Roberto Martinez both considered, the Conte option still there but more expensive and complicated."
