WIGAN Athletic player of the season Jordi Gomez has signed for Sunderland on a free transfer.
The Spaniard, whose contract runs out next month, rejected two improved deals at the DW Stadium to move to the North East.
He will officially become a part of Gus Poyet’s side on July 1.
Gomez, who celebrated his 29th birthday on May 24, won the club’s player of the season award after the recent Championship campaign in which he scored Latics’ goal at Wembley in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final.
Despite a number of interested clubs, Gomez opted for Sunderland and has signed a three-year deal.
