GRANT Holt has has had his Wigan Athletic contract cancelled by mutual consent.
The 34-year-old has endured a frustrating two-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium since his arrival from Norwich.
And with only six months remaining on his deal, he is now free to seek alternative employers.
“Grant’s career speaks for itself, and his experience has certainly been valued here at Wigan Athletic,” said boss Gary Caldwell.
“In my time as manager, Grant has given nothing short of his all in training and in the matches he has played.
“But with competition for places fierce, both Grant and the club felt it was best he moved on to get the first-team football he requires at this stage of his career.
“His knowledge of the game and ability has never been in question, and I am sure he will have a lot to offer wherever his future takes him.
“We thank him for his service to the football club.”
