THE search for Roberto Martinez’s successor is nearly at an end, with Latics believed to be closing in on their new boss.
And the former gaffer is adamant Dave Whelan will pick the right man for his old job.
After days of rumours and reports, innuendo and intrigue, the special one will hopefully be unveiled before the weekend.
Owen Coyle is the slight favourite with the bookies in what now looks to be a two-horse race, but Steve McClaren also made a very positive impression during the interview process.
The vacancy arose after Martinez moved to Everton after four years at the DW. And the Spaniard says Whelan will choose the right man to succeed him.
“The chairman is the perfect man to make the perfect choice for the club,” Martinez told the Evening Post.
“Jonathan Jackson (chief executive) is also a man with blue-and-white blood who will do everything he can to support the new manager.
“The man who comes in will be given total support, and will be in a phenomenal position to take on a club in a great position.”
