DUNDEE United are mulling over an improved offer for Wigan Athletic striker Billy Mckay.
The SPL outfit have already failed with two bids for the Northern Ireland international, who only joined Latics from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in January for around £150,000.
Mckay underlined his value with a blinding goal in the 1-1 friendly draw at Altrincham on Tuesday night.
However, Latics had earlier in the day splashed out around £1million on Brentford striker Will Grigg, which placed a question mark over Mckay’s long-term future.
United are looking for a new striker after losing Nadir Ciftci to Celtic - Latics ironically narrowly missing out on his signature - and they are considering whether to make a third bid for their top target.
Speaking after Tuesday night’s 3-1 pre-season friendly defeat at the hands of AZ Alkmaar, boss Jackie McNamara said: “The chairman (Stephen Thompson) has been dealing with that.
“We have had a second bid that I think has been rejected so we will wait and see.
“There is plenty of time to go yet.”
