WIGAN Athletic have swooped for their second summer recruit in two days.
Goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell has agreed to join the club when his contract with Walsall expires in July.
The Saddlers’ Player Of The Season has agreed a three-year deal, subject to a medical.
The move comes just a day after the club announced former Blackpool midfielder David Perkins is set to join Latics in a similar arrangement.
“I’m delighted Richard has agreed to join us,” said manager Gary Caldwell. “He was definitely one of the best keepers in League One last season; his clean sheet record speaks for itself.
“There were a number of clubs chasing his signature and we had to move quickly to get him because we had identified him as a potential target.
“He’s at a good age and fits in with the profile of ambitious players we are looking for and he will be a quality addition to the squad.”
The capture of O’Donnell suggests Scott Carson is poised for a summer exit.
Wigan also have Lee Nicholls on their books - he recently penned a two-year contract extension, and was preferred to Carson on the final day of the season.
Carson is thought to be one of Latics’ top earners and joined the club with ambitions of helping them into the Premier League.
Fellow keeper Ali Al Habsi has already departed.
