JORDI Gomez has challenged Wigan Athletic to take their impressive form into Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at Manchester City.

Latics make the short trip to Eastlands this weekend for a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final in red-hot form, having won each of their last five matches – four of them on the road.

The holders have already put out two Premier League sides en route to the last eight – Crystal Palace and Cardiff – both by the odd goal in three.

And Gomez reckons if they can hold their form, Latics are capable of pulling off another massive giant-killing act against the newly-crowned Capital One Cup holders.

“We’ll go there to win the game, as we did at Wembley last season,” Gomez told the Evening Post.

“We can only do our best, and we will see where that takes us.

“Everyone is excited about the game, especially with what happened in the FA Cup final last year.

“It will be a different game but hopefully it will be the same result.”

Latics go into the game full of confidence after their 4-1 annihilation of Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Gomez was once again outstanding in the centre of midfield, and added the icing to the cake with a fabulous fourth goal in the last minute.

However, the former Espanyol man insisted the three points – which took Latics into the play-off places for the first time this season – outweighed his personal contribution.

“It was a great performance from the team, and now we are in a play-off position,” the Spaniard acknowledged. “We’ll keep working hard to stay there until the end of the season.

“At the moment, we are on a good run of results, and we will fight until the last day.” Gomez’s recent form has been as good as anything he has produced in his five years in a Wigan shirt. And he is hoping to keep it going between now and the end of the season. “I’m happy with the way things are going for me,” he added. The team is getting good results, five wins on the bounce, and we need to keep it going.”
