Craig Morgan has warned Wigan Athletic that their return to League One will be far tougher going than their previous experience.
Latics find themselves back in the third tier after a thoroughly disappointing campaign, which saw them fail to pick up after a slow start and end up nine points adrift of safety when the music finally stopped.
The scenes at the final game of the campaign last weekend against Leeds were in stark contrast to 12 months earlier, when Morgan had picked up the League One title as skipper after a memorable season.
But the Welshman says anyone automatically expecting next term to be a repeat of the cakewalk will be in for a rude awakening.
“As we found out last year, we know it’s not an easy league, and it did take us a while to get going,” Morgan acknowledged.
“We’ll know exactly what to expect - that no-one has a divine right to win football matches.
“It’s a tough league, and I think next season will be the toughest it’s been for a while.
