WIGAN Athletic begin their USA tour today with manager Owen Coyle re-iterating: “This is no holiday!”

Latics will face two tough matches as well as gruelling fitness work, and Coyle reckons it will prove to be the perfect preparation for the new term.

“The first game will be the toughest, because Columbus Crew are halfway through their season so physically and mentally they’ll be in a very good place,” said Coyle.

“They’ve got some very good players, the stadium is magnificent, the facilities are first class and it’ll be our first game after a period of intense training.

“But that’s the reason we’re going out there – to test ourselves in a tough environment.”

Wigan last night announced their squad numbers for next season.

All remaining players have kept their old numbers, with the changes being Scott Carson (1), Stephen Crainey (3), Thomas Rogne (6), Chris McCann (7), Grant Holt (9), James Perch (24) and Marc-Antoine Fortune (32).

The new home shirt went on sale this morning.
