WIGAN Athletic have reported ‘very impressive’ levels of season ticket sales, and expect to ‘easily surpass’ last year’s final total.
The feel-good factor surrounding the DW Stadium – generated by a stunning end to the season that saw Latics win seven of their last nine matches – is clearly showing no signs of disappearing.
Indeed, chief executive Jonathan Jackson has revealed sales are 20 per cent higher than at the corresponding stage of last year.
All remaining season tickets went on open sale this week, after the deadline for existing seat-holders passed last weekend.
And Jackson fully expects the season-passes to continue to fly out of the ticket office with Roberto Martinez about to bolster his squad following the departures of Momo Diame, Hugo Rodallega, Chris Kirkland, Steve Gohouri and Hendry Thomas.
“Sales have been very impressive and we are expecting to easily surpass last season’s total,” Jackson told the Evening Post.
“The incredible end to last season has created a real feel-good factor around the club.
“And with Roberto Martinez now ready to welcome back his players for pre-season training early next month, there is a growing sense of optimism which is being reflected in season ticket sales.
“The anticipation is starting to gather towards the new season and it is really encouraging to see a higher than normal amount of season ticket sales to new supporters, which highlights that our profile as a football club is rising all the time.
“We represent fabulous value for money in what is the most watched league in the world and when you have big clubs so close to the town have we have to do everything we can to grow our supporter base.”
Prices for adult season tickets start at just £255 – the equivalent of £13.42 per match – and can be purchased from the DW Stadium ticket office, www.wiganathletic.com or by phoning 0871 6633552.
