LATICS were denied by a cruel late, late penalty in a six-goal thriller at the DW Stadium.
Winning 3-2 going into the last seconds of the six minutes of stoppage time, a high foot by David Jones into the face of the stopping Paul Robinson - up from the goals for the last throw of the dice - resulted in a penalty cooly tucked away by Yakubu.
Playing for the last half an hour against ten men following David Dunn’s second yellow card, Latics thought they had done enough when Albert Crusat cooly pulled the ball down and toe poked it home.
There was controversy throughout the match particularly when Blackburn’s second goal seem to come about after Morten Gamst Pederson took a corner to himself and drilled in a ball across the goalline which was bundled in at the back post by David Hoilett.
Yakubu got Rovers got off the mark after three minutes with the Latics defense sleeping but Jordi Gomez equalised on eight minutes.
Latics went in front when Gary Caldwell headed home firmly from a corner and that’s how the first half finished.
