Alex Bruce and Gary Roberts have both signed one-year contract extensions to remain with Wigan Athletic.
Both were at Euxton on Monday to kick-off pre-season with the rest of the squad, and the news was confirmed after the first double session of the summer.
“You know what you’re going to get from lads like Alex and Gary,” said boss Paul Cook.
“And they’re going to be really important to our squad with the demands we are going to face in the Championship.”
The off-contract pair were – along with David Perkins, Noel Hunt and Jamie Jones – offered new 12-month deals last month, but were encouraged to explore their options before putting pen to paper.
While Perkins and Hunt have moved on, to Rochdale and Waterford respectively, Roberts and Bruce have joined Jones in staying put.
That makes it six signings in total this summer, with Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton – who enjoyed a hugely-successful loan spell last term – agreeing a similar deal to remain with Latics.
The two ‘new’ arrivals this summer – Kal Naismith from Portsmouth and Leonardo Da Silva Lopes from Peterborough – were also at Euxton on Monday, with chairman David Sharpe among the interested onlookers.
