A busy transfer deadline day saw Wigan Athletic welcome three new faces to the squad, but questions were raised over the future of fan favourite Max Power.
Power was reported to be on the move back to League One with Sunderland, but late last night it emerged he will now join them on loan instead of on a permanent deal, with the move expected to be announced on Friday.
Power came off the bench in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday, as new signing Darron Gibson was given the nod by Paul Cook ahead of the former Tranmere midfielder.
The day’s business also saw the capture of Joe Garner on a two-year deal, with Latics beating Bolton to the Ipswich striker’s signature, and Everton’s Callum Connolly returned for a second stint on loan.
Josh Windass joined from Rangers for an undisclosed fee, while Dan Burn signed for Premier League side Brighton, but has been loaned back to Latics until at least January.
Earlier in the day Jordan Flores joined Swedish Allsvenskan side Ostersunds on loan until the end of December.
There could be more movement at the club this month though, with the loan market open until August 31, and the club hinted via its social media channels there
will be more activity this morning, with a tweet reading: “See you back at 8am, Tics!”
The club are being strongly linked with Sheffield United’s Lee Evans.
The Wales international joined the Blades last January.
