Wigan split the spoils with Rotherham but remained at the summit of League One due to results elsewhere as fellow title chasers Blackburn Rovers were pegged back by a 94th minute equaliser at Bristol Rovers.

Latics had few clear-cut chances in an affair that was mostly contested in the midfield areas, with Rotherham probably feeling disappointed to only be taking one point back to Yorkshire after not making the most out of gilt-edged opportunities at the beginning of the game.

Latics supporters seemed pleased with the point, emphasising the main priority was to avoid losing any ground on promotion rivals Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town and continue to pick up points to add to the total tally.

Blackburn’s late set-back at the Memorial Stadium was the biggest talking point amongst the Wigan fans, with many supporters believing that if Latics can return to winning ways in their next outing against Oxford United on Tuesday it is highly probable they will be crowned the champions in May.

Here is what the Latics fans had to say after the goalless encounter with the Millers at the DW Stadium on the various social media platforms:

Dan Fox (DFox94): ‘Happy to take a point and clean sheet, could have been much worse’

Harry Robinson(RobboHarry): ‘Rotherham was always going to be the hardest fixture of the last 7 or so and a draw is a decent result in the grand scheme of things. Blackburn bottling their lead and our superior goal difference still gives us a safety net with only 5 games to go’

Matt Jones(WafcMatt3): With Blackburn and Shrewsbury drawing, it’s just another game ticked off. No points gained or lost over anyone.’

@Sam_Knowles12: ‘Not a great performance but I’ll take the point’

@StuartGlover: ‘Pretty sure we would have lost today if Chey Dunkley hadn’t been playing’

@CalWafc: ‘Another game down and nothing changed at the top, not bad. Win Tuesday, and all will look good!’

Mark Ward(Mark_W29) ‘Poor performance for me today, lucky to get away with a point and got a bit of luck with the other result’

Ian Humphreys-Graham(shaggy21uk): ‘Bit of a let off in the end there with Blackburn ending up a draw. On to Tuesday’

@JoeWinstanley88: ‘No worse off than last week, just one more game ticked off and that should be the hardest. Gave us a good game, Rotherham, they were very organised, we just couldn’t find that goal to win the game! Onto Tuesday!’

Neil Gordon: ‘I will take that, they were the toughest game we had left this season and we have now played it and are still top of the league. Now all we got to do is win our game on Tuesday and the league is ours for the taking’

Peter Millward(PeteMillward79): I’ve enjoyed most other matches more, but I’d say that was a good day overall. Another game down and nothing lost on #rovers. I’d say we’ll be strong, strong favourites if we can beat Oxford in midweek. 100 points guarantees the title now, as it always would’

@oSimplyStuart: ‘Rotherham were a strong team, had a plan & delivered. Wigan didn’t seem to get into their stride & were under cosh for much of the game. Rotherham strong contenders in play offs. Well earned point, puts us on track for that auto promotion.’

Latics skipper Sam Morsy also took to Twitter to priause his team-mates.

@sammorsy08: ‘Battling display from the lads today.. puts us in a great position now’

Meanwhile, Latics chairman David Sharpe has paid tribute to his players’ efforts so far this season, as the team has already matched the same points margin as the 2015-16 League One winning Wigan side with five games still to play.

@DavidSharpe91: ‘Today we matched our 87 points tally of when we won the league 2 years ago....and we still have 5 games remaining! Immense credit goes to all the boys!! Huge 5 games now to make it a great season!! Big support needed till May 5th!! #wafc’
