YANIC Wildschut says he “loves” playing for Wigan Athletic and can’t wait to pick up from where he left off, after returning to the club on a permanent deal.
The Dutchman was a huge hit for Latics after joining from Middlesbrough on loan earlier this season.
That deal came to a close after the draw against Scunthorpe but such was his impact at the DW that boss Gary Caldwell moved quickly to secure his signature on a permanent basis.
A fee was a greed in midweek – with sources in the North East claiming it is around the £600,000 mark – and the move was completed on Saturday.
“I have loved playing for Wigan,” said Wildschut. “Everyone at the club has been great to me, the fans sing my name, and I’m so happy that everything is now done. I can concentrate on playing now again and helping us climb the table.”
He has put pen to paper on a deal that secured his services at the DW Stadium until the end of the 2018-19 season.
“Everyone at the club has worked so hard to get the deal over the line and it shows our ambition that we are now able to unveil Yanic as a Wigan Athletic player,” said Caldwell.
“On his day, he has already shown us what he can do and how devastating he can be. He’s not the finished article yet, he will be the first to admit that, but his potential is huge and we are delighted that it is here in Wigan that we can both work together for the long-term.”
The news was also greeted warmly by the 24-year-old’s teammates with Jason Pearce tweeting: “Yes big man. Buzzing to have you back. Big future. Congrats.”
Wildschut now goes straight into the side to face Sheffield United on Tuesday.
