And the Wigan MP says she knows of other interested parties who are waiting in the wings in the EFL doesn’t give the 'Preferred Bidders' the green light.

The EFL will meet on Thursday to discuss the situation, with Jose Miguel Garrido Cristo - representative for the Spanish bid - confirming paperwork had been submitted WITHOUT the Supporters Club yet on board.

"We cannot wait any longer," he said on Tuesday. "We need a decision now. Hopefully we will have an agreement with the EFL, and of course we will sit down again with the supporters.”

That led the Supporters Club to release a statement saying they were ‘unable to move forward with the proposed deal at this time', because the 'timescales have been insufficient to enable us to investigate the outcomes of the meeting and to hold the proper discussions with our wider committee'.

The Supporters Club say they 'remain open to continuing our dialogue with bidders, with the aim of gaining the reassurances we need to invest and secure a positive role for the supporters in the future of our club should a bid be successful'.

That move was fully endorsed by Ms Nandy, who has been heavily involved behind the scenes since Latics were placed into administration on July 1, and who says she knows of other credible parties who are waiting in the wings should the Spanish bid not get the green light.

“I fully support the decision of the Supporters Club," she said. "They have a duty to act in the best interests of the club.

“I’m enormously heartened that I know of a number of other parties who are very keen to proceed if this bid isn’t approved by the EFL.

“I have met with a number of them and I believe there are options available.

"If the bid from the Spanish consortium isn’t successful, this would not be the end of the road for Wigan Athletic.”
