The 27-year-old – one of the longest-serving players on the books, having arrived in 2016 from Wolves – is keeping to his own personal programme routine, along with the rest of his colleagues during the Covid-19 pandemic.

But he’s counting the days until things get back to normal, due to his hectic home life.

“I’m missing everyday life, especially the football,” Byrne admitted.

“I’m keeping myself busy, though, I’m never lying down.

“I’ve got two lively kids, a big Doberman that’s the size of a horse, as well as two dachshunds...so I’ve got my hands full at home!”

Byrne has also revealed the extent of the schedules given out by the coaching staff, to ensure players are keeping their bodies in shape as they wait to hear when the season – and training at Euxton – can resume.

“We’ve been given programmes by the club, days to work, days to rest,” he said. “There’s not really one guided plan, it’s just making sure we stay fit, to a certain extent we’re doing our own thing.

“We’ve got an App set up online, which lets us fill out what we’ve done.

“So we can track where we’ve run to and gone on our bikes – and the coaches can check up on us!”
