Pressure is '˜welcome' for Wigan Athletic

With Blackburn next in action against Bradford on March 29, if Wigan beat Bury this afternoon and AFC Wimbledon take points off Shrewsbury, Paul Cook’s men will return to the summit.

But with games in hand and a target in mind, Barry says the coaching team are not fussed how other results go while Latics’ fate is in their own hands.

“We just stay on us. We know how many games we’ve got left, we know how many points we want to acquire, and that doesn’t change whether Blackburn play or not,” he said.

“We’ve got a tough game at Bury and it’s a game they must go and win. It’s a massive game for us so whether Blackburn play or not really doesn’t affect us.”

When asked if having to play catch-up with games in hand to win promotion put his side under pressure, Barry insisted it is a situation everyone at the club embraces.

And added to fixture congestion which makes the M6 South on a Friday look quiet, Bury need to start winning quickly to have any hope of survival.

“You have to enjoy the pressure,” Barry said.

“Pressure comes with big games so if you’re not feeling pressure you’re probably not involved in big games.

“We must enjoy the pressure, take it on our shoulders and show what we can do.”
