Record attempt by Wigan Athletic star!

Wigan Athletic defender Chey Dunkley admits he’s got his sights set on the record books as he continues his astonishing recovery from a double leg break.

The Latics centre-back was back in the gym within 24 days of undergoing surgery after sustaining the injury at Reading on February 26.

And with no sign of football returning at the moment, he’s hoping his season isn’t over after all!

“I’ve had a little joke with a couple of the lads, that I could make it into the Guiness Book of Records for the fastest recovery from a broken leg,” he told the Wigan Post.

“I’ve only missed two games, and you never know how long we could be without football for! That’s obviously out of my hands, it’s got nothing to do with me.

“All I can do is focus 100 per cent on my rehab, and not concern myself with anything else that’s going on. Rehab’s the main thing, but it’s also about mental rest, reading and living the best life I can, to get back as quick as I can.”

Dunkley – who has been allowed access to the training ground at Euxton to continue his rehab, while the rest of the squad self-isolate at home – is also happy at not being forced to sit through matches.

“I think that’s a big issue for a lot of players when they’re in this position, the games coming along and having to miss them,” he added.

“But at the same time, I’m not able to watch any kind of football, which is another strange experience.”
