Shrewsbury wary of Wigan Athletic - and Callum Lang

Aaron Wilbraham is expecting ‘strong and organised’ Wigan Athletic to give his Shrewsbury side ‘a really tough game’ on Tuesday night.

Latics go into the game at Montgomery Waters Meadow on the back of three wins on the bounce that have lifted them four points clear of the drop zone with four games to go.

Another victory would go a long way to securing their League One safety against all the odds.

And Wilbraham – who’s stepped up from assistant manager in recent weeks with Steve Cotterill still recovering at home – says his side know they’re in for a game.

“Wigan have picked up some really good results recently and they’ve given themselves a chance of staying up,” he said.

“They’re fighting for their lives and we know it’s going to be a really tough game.

“They have been on a really good run and their results have been great.

“They have a good squad and they are starting to pick up the results they want.

“They look strong and organised so we have to make sure we are ready to do what we are good at.

“We need to fight like we know we can do to get the three points.”

Shrewsbury – two places and six points above Latics in the standings – are looking for a response themselves after back-to-back defeats against Oxford and Doncaster.

“The lads will want to put the last couple of results right with the visit of Wigan,” acknowledged Wilbraham.

“We want to take the good bits from the recent performances and cut out any mistakes.

“The lads are in good spirits. We don’t get too high with the wins and too low with the losses.”

The game also sees Callum Lang return to the club where he spent last season on loan.

“The lads have spoken about Callum Lang and mentioned how hard he works,” added Wilbraham.

“I hear he’s got a good attitude and he can score a goal.

“They have some dangerous players and we certainly have to be aware of them.”
