With time running out to find a buyer for the club - in administration since July 1 - the supporters' club is inviting fans to be a part of a "community-led ownership model for the club".

They hope to raise at least £500,000 by next Monday, via a new Crowdfunder, to ensure the club’s future and supporter representation in the club’s ownership.

They say the "real risk that Wigan Athletic may not attract new owners before the 2020/21 season begins" has prompted them to launch the ambitious scheme.

It has been backed by Latics CEO Jonathan Jackson, Lisa Nandy MP, Wigan Council and Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

A statement from the supporters club said: "We can shape the future of our football club and ensure our community club is sustainable and here for our children and grandchildren to experience all of the memories we have over the last 88 years.

"We need every supporter to pledge as much as they can reasonably afford in order to meet our targets, SAVE OUR CLUB and ensure that our community can drive Wigan Athletic’s future. Subject to the value of your pledge, there are three tiers of rewards for our contributors."

Pledges of £250 and upwards are being invited. It was being launched today at the DW Stadium. More details to follow.
