Takeover agony goes on for Wigan Athletic fans

Wigan Athletic's administrators have delivered their latest - and shortest - update, which suggests it's been a frustratingly slow week in terms of finding a buyer.

There was precious little actual information in the now weekly statement, with the admins even suggesting it will be next month at the earliest before any real movement.

"We continue to liaise with interested parties, the EFL and the Supporters Club in respect of the sale," the statement read.

"Further information has been provided by the interested parties as part of the overall process and the requirement to obtain approval by the EFL.

"Exclusivity has not been granted to any interested party.

"While progress may appear slow regarding the sale, we continue to remain optimistic of a successful outcome and expect to hear from the EFL by early March 2021."

The admins also revealed they have put feelers out to the EFL with regards possibly being given more special dispensation to bring in additional players, after Tom Pearce became the latest player to be added to the long-term injury list.

"Further representations have been made by the club doctor to the EFL regarding the squad size restrictions during the pandemic," the statement added.
