Latics chairman David Sharpe sacked Gary Caldwell on Tuesday after he won just two of their 14 Championship games this season.

Ryan Giggs and Karl Robinson remain the bookmakers’ favourites for the role.
But according to the Scottish Sun, Rangers boss Warburton has surfaced on their radar.

The 54-year-old took Rangers to the Scottish Championship title and subsequently back to the Premiership last season, though they are currently fifth in the table.

Sharpe took to Twitter last night to praise Caldwell’s contribution to Latics and thank him for his efforts. Caldwell has not commented.

It is unclear whether the new manager will be in charge for Saturday’s trip to Cardiff.

Latics are second-bottom of the Championship.
