'We create a lot of our problems' muses Wigan Athletic boss

Wigan Athletic boss John Sheridan once again accused his side of pressing the self-destruct button after the 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers MK Dons.

Latics were well-beaten at Stadium MK, with their winless sequence extending to six matches.

They were fortunate to go in at half-time on level terms, with goalkeeper Jamie Jones making a couple of fine saves to keep the home side out.

But two goals in the space of four minutes at the start of the second period put the game out of Wigan's reach - leaving Sheridan reading from a very familiar script.

"Again, I'm probably repeating what I've said for the last couple of weeks," he acknowledged. "We just didn't start the game.

"I thought we defended when we had to defend, they created one or two opportunities, but I didn't feel we were under that much pressure.

"I'm just disappointed with the way we went about our game.

"We wanted to take the game to MK Dons much more than what we did, but we didn't take care of the ball enough.

"I just think we keep making ourselves look too vulnerable by making wrong decisions on the football pitch.

"You go in at half-time knowing we can play better, but happy to be level.

"We just need to pick our game up by 10-15 per cent, and then five minutes later we're down.

"And the reason we're down is the exact thing I've told them at half-time: Make the right decisions at the right time.

"We're 20 yards from their goal when they score their first goal. It's sounds stupid doesn't it, but it's true.

"We've got the opportunity to put the ball into their box, from a dangerous area in the middle of the pitch.

"We lose possession, we make a wrong decision, but 10 seconds later it's in our box and it's a penalty.

"I've said this before, but you can show them stuff as much as you want all week, but it's about making the right decisions on the pitch.

"We create a lot of our problems, we do."
