Wigan Athletic administrator Gerald Krasner insists he wasn't aware of the video circulating of EFL chief Rick Parry - but will be investigating the situation as soon as possible.

The EFL on Thursday night confirmed a clip of Parry - apparently discussing jaw-dropping betting claims about the club's former owner - WAS genuine.

Parry was secretly recorded during a chat with a Latics fan, who happens to live in the same street in Cheshire.

“There’s rumours that there’s a bet on them in the Philippines on them being relegated," Parry is heard saying. "The previous owner has got gambling interests in the Philippines.”

And the EFL were quick to issue a statement in the aftermath.

"The EFL is aware of a video of its chairman posted on social media on Thursday night that discusses recent developments at Wigan Athletic," said an EFL spokesman.

"It was part of a much wider and impromptu discussion he was having with a Wigan supporter he does not know but who lives in the same area.

"The private conversation focused around the events of the last 24-48 hours, how the EFL can assist and what happens next.

The various rumours and reports that have been circulating throughout today were also discussed.

"While the chairman was unaware he was being filmed, he was happy to engage in the debate, and appreciates this is a concerning and challenging time for all those associated with the club.’

Krasner admitted to being unaware of the video's existence, before being contacted by the Wigan Post - who have forwarded on the footage to him.

And he acknowledges it's another significant twist in an already jaw-dropping set of circumstances.

"It will certainly come into my investigation, it will have to be," he told the Wigan Post.

"But it will not stop me selling the club in the meantime.

"The thing is, football is incredible.

"When I bought Leeds United, which is 15/16 years ago, I said to someone that if we made a film of what was going on, we could pay all the debts.

"And the same is true at Wigan Athletic."

He added: "I was asked in the first Zoom call on Wednesday whether I was aware of any gambling links to this.

"As I said then, I knew nothing about that prior to the question.

"And I will have a look at the footage when it arrives."
