Paul Cook will spend Saturday evening experiencing '˜real life' as a fan while his beloved Liverpool lock horns with Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Having delivered the League One title to Wigan during his first season in charge, Cook has travelled over to Kiev in the hope Jurgen Klopp can complete a trophy double.

“It’s nice, because you realise once again what it’s like to be a supporter,” Cook enthused.

“Even for myself, it’s another little reminder about how lucky we are – what fans go through, financially and in terms of time, effort.

“It’s people’s lives, it’s real life.”

Having gone under the radar for much of his double life, Cook is now being recognised more and more by fellow fans.

“I’ve started to get recognised...especially since that Man City game!” he laughed.

“Going there as Wigan boss is slightly surreal, because at the end of the day I’m just an ordinary Liverpool fan.

“One of my mates sent me a couple of pictures of me singing behind the goal in Rome the other week.

“I’m thinking: ‘Is that really me?’ It’s mad.”
