Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook taking promotion mission '˜one game at a time'

Paul Cook has insisted that Latics will take it one game at a time as the fixtures begin to come up thick and fast for his side on the season run-in.

Latics’ run to the quarter finals of the FA Cup has seen them build up games in hand on all of their promotion rivals, meaning that they face the prospect of playing two games a week until the end of April, but Cook is confident that they are doing things the right way.

He said: “We just have to keep going. We’re very lucky at this club. We prepare properly for the games.

“It’s in everybody’s hands to get as many points as they can, and by the end of the season whatever will be will be.”

Latics currently sit third in League One, two points behind leaders Blackburn with two games in hand, but have the opportunity to return to the top of the table on Saturday should results go their way.

But Cook warned his side has their work cut out.

“There’s going to be bumps and bruises between now and the end of the season,” he said. “We’re going to lose a game that we’re expected to win, but that’s the nature of football and we’ve got to put a points tally out there which is hopefully good enough.”
