Wigan Athletic '˜don't have a mental block on the road' - Burn

Dan Burn insists Wigan Athletic haven't developed a mental block about playing matches on the road despite their wretched recent run.

Although they boast the best home record in the Championship – with 17 points collected from a possible 21 – Latics have lost seven of their eight away matches to date, with only struggling Rotherham having fared even worse.

The latest setback came last weekend at Sheffield United, when the high-flying Blades cut loose to triumph 4-2.

While disappointed with the result, Burn feels it’s nothing that can’t be put right with hard work on the training ground.

“We are picking up points at home, so it shows we’re doing something right,” he told the Wigan Post.

“I don’t think it’s a psychological thing, it’s not like we’re turning thinking we’re going to get beat.

“It’s hard to put your finger on what it is...if i could do that, I’d change it!

“It’s just one of those things in football, you have highs and lows, and I’m sure it’ll change at some point.”

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Latics, who entertain Leeds United at home this Sunday before travelling to Middlesbrough on Saturday week.

However, Burn says there were positives to be taken from the trip to South Yorkshire, from which the side can take heart.

“From a defensive point it was really disappointing,” he acknowledged.

“But at the other end we created a lot of chances, and in the first half that’s probably the most under-pressure they’ve been all season.

“We got the ball down, we showed what we can do, and on a different day we could and should have perhaps done even more damage.”
