Administrators Begbie Traynor on Wednesday morning revealed a 'Preferred Bidder' had been identified from the 64 shows of interest, who were sent non-disclosure agreements, which resulted in five bids being received.

Although remaining anonymous for the time being, the party had to sign a letter confirming the funds were with their lawyers by noon on Thursday - as well as producing a £100,000 goodwill bond.

That deadline has obviously passed, but the administrators will only release a statement in their own time - when there is something positive or negative to say.

Contracts will hopefully be exchanged by July 31 - the same date as Latics' appeal against the 12-point deduction imposed by the EFL will be heard.

It's understood the club WILL proceed with their appeal - despite the cost being in the region of £500,000.

Latics would probably have withdrawn the appeal had they stayed up on the pitch.

But they will instead have to fight for their Championship status in the courts - captained by David Phillips QC.
