Wigan Athletic to hold off on manager decision

Wigan Athletic will not be appointing a like-for-like replacement for Swindon-bound John Sheridan.

With the proposed takeover by a Spanish group fronted by Jose Miguel Garrido Cristo still with the EFL, Wigan Today understands the club will not be seeking a new full-time manager in the meantime.

That would more than likely mean Leam Richardson and Gregor Rioch stepping back up to the breach, as they did over pre-season and for the opening game of the campaign - the EFL Cup defeat at Fleetwood - before Sheridan was appointed on September 11.

Latics have yet to officially confirm the departure of Sheridan after two months in charge.

But he's expected to join Swindon following Richie Wellens' move to Salford City.
