The new season gets under way three weeks this Saturday, with a home game against Sheffield Wednesday – just one of the ‘massive’ clubs Latics find themselves doing battle with.

“It’s crazy seeing the fixture list – every single game is a massive game,” Grigg told the Wigan Post.

“It’s not like League One or League Two...this is the big time, with big teams, who have big histories.

“We know it’s going to be a big test of us but it’s one we’re more than ready for.

“It’s no secret we made mistakes last time in the Championship – as a club, as a team, as individuals.

“But I feel we’re 100 per cent better equipped to do better this time, and we’re determined to prove that.

“When I look in the dressing room I see we’re stronger as a club, a team and a staff – and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Grigg has been on poster-boy duty this week unveiling the new Latics kit, ahead of Saturday’s first pre-season friendly at Tranmere – and he can’t wait to get back in the groove.

“It’s been nice to switch off and spend some time with the family,” he added.

“But at the same time it’s always in the back of your mind – you see a kid playing football, the World Cup’s on the telly, and it’s back in your thoughts.”
