Wigan Athletic skipper issues plea for 'justice'

Despite a heroic effort from the players - to match the incredible stuff off the field from the fans to keep the club going - Latics were unable to force a late winner on Wednesday night against Fulham that would have seen them stay up.

As it is, with the 12-point deduction for being placed into administration being applied, Latics finished a point below the danger line.

And hoping for David Phillips QC now to step up and save them.

"The lads and all the staff gave their absolute all just wasn’t to be," acknowledged Morsy.

"The support has been amazing this season and we have all been so proud to wear the badge.

"We can now only hope justice will prevail."

Team-mate Antonee Robinson added: "Couldn’t be prouder of how each and every member of the club came together and fought until the very last day.

"Unfortunately what comes next is out of our hands, but thank you to everyone who has supported us through this regardless."

Joe Williams tweeted: "Absolutely gutted. Pleasure to play for this club, we can’t control what goes on off the pitch.

"But we have given it everything and just fell short. Thank you the Wigan fans for all your support."

Injured defender Chey Dunkley said: "Cannot fault the boys, staff and all the fans at our club.

"We literally put our all in to stay up. Unfortunately events off the pitch have cost us.

"One loss in 15, the boys have been absolutely phenomenal."

And Dujon Sterling, who spent most of the season on loan from Chelsea, messaged his backing.

"A massive thanks to all the staff, players and fans for their support this season," he tweeted.

"Gutted to see the club go down undeserving, but I know they’re strong.

"Wishing everyone all the best for the future."
