'Wigan Athletic would have taken a draw, we wouldn't' - Shrewsbury boss

Shrewsbury manager Steve Cotterill reckoned his side left behind two points at the DW Stadium after drawing 1-1 with Wigan Athletic.

The home side took the lead within two minutes of the restart, Will Keane converting a penalty awarded for a foul on Tom Pearce.

Shrewsbury, who'd got away with a strong penalty shout for another foul on Pearce at the end of the first half, levelled through Shaun Whalley midway through the second half.

And although Wigan came closest to winning it through Thelo Aasgaard right at the death, it was the Shrewsbury boss who went away feeling short-changed.

"In the second half, we deserved all three points," said Cotterill, whose side had won their last three games 1-0 on the road.

"It was a bit of a slow start to that half, with us conceding the penalty.

"But I thought towards the end of the game, we were the team in the ascendancy. We were the team that were looking for the winning goal.

"With 30 minutes to go, I think they would have taken the draw if you offered it to them.

"Our goal came from a great move. It was a great turn and a great finish - we were delighted with that.

"I would have been happy with a scrappy goal for the second.

"There are lots of positives we can take from the game. It was a different challenge for us, going a goal down.

"I saw lots of positives in us. I was as pleased with this draw, as I have been with any of the wins.

"We could just have done better for the first 35 seconds of the second half.

"Yes, we deserved all three but are leaving with a point.

"Good teams at the end of the season are there because they are consistent.

"The lads were more than good for the point."

Cotterill also had no issue with the penalty award that allowed Wigan to take the lead.

"It was a bit of a slow start to the second half conceding the penalty, no qualms with that," he added.

"Ro-Shaun (Williams) has tried to get inside him, but it's bounced kindly and he's clipped him."
