Wigan Athletic have received a huge injury setback with news Gavin Massey could be out for the rest of 2018 after undergoing surgery on a hamstring problem.
Massey, who’d enjoyed a brilliant start to the campaign, pulled up lame in the 1-0 defeat at QPR on August 25.
And he went under the knife this week to correct the problem - which boss Paul Cook admits will sideline him for some time.
“It’s unfortunately a bad one, for sure,” revealed Cook at his weekly press conference on Friday morning.
“He had an operation on Wednesday, and we might be looking at three or four months.
“It’s a massive blow, because the kid was playing so well, but that’s part and parcel of football.”
Massey himself confirmed the news via social media, with a picture of him on crutches and a leg brace.
“Successful operation, hopefully be back soon,” he posted.
“Rest and recovery and now. Thanks for all the messages.”
