WIGAN Athletic boss Gary Caldwell is facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of the hamstring injury picked up by Kevin McNaughton in the 2-0 defeat at Gillingham.

McNaughton, making his first start of the campaign, lasted less than 45 minutes before he pulled up lame, to be replaced by Jonjoe Kenny.

And the 32-year-old will be scanned to ascertain whether he was substituted before any lasting damage occurred.

“We’re not sure how bad the injury is yet,” revealed Caldwell.

“It’s a tendon in his hamstring, hopefully we got him off early enough.

“The physios are hoping it’s not too bad and we’ll assess that as quickly as possible.”

Centre-back Donervon Daniels will also be assessed after quitting the action in the closing stages - after Latics had used all three of their substitutions - following a bang to the head.

“The physio thought he looked a little concussed and we all know there’s a protocol nowadays to deal with that,” admitted the Latics chief.

“We took him straight off and we’ll see how he is.”

Caldwell also reiterated his desire to continue to fine-tune his playing squad in the final week before the transfer deadline.

“We’ll keep looking, we’ll keep trying,” he added.

“If we feel it’ll improve our squad then we’ll try and do something.”
