GARY Caldwell has stressed how important Latics’ home form will be this term is they are to win promotion back to the Championship.

Crewe travel to the DW Stadium tomorrow looking to be the first away team to take a league win from Latics this season – while Caldwell’s men hunt for their second win of the campaign.

And with a draw against Doncaster and an impressive win over Scunthorpe at home already this season, Caldwell wants his players to use their record to their advantage tomorrow.

“It’s going to be important,” he said.

“We’re unbeaten and have two clean sheets at home so we have to use that.

“For any team that wants to be successful you home form has to be rock solid and we’ve started that way.”

But the Latics boss doesn’t think tomorrow’s clash will be plain sailing, despite Crewe’s lowly-league position, one place above the relegation places, and the fact they only just avoided the drop last term.

“When I’ve watched them I’ve been very impressed by them,” he said of Crewe, who have two points from four games.

“I think we’ll be in for a very tough game because they do play a lot of good football.

“Both teams will try and play and hopefully it’s an entertaining game with two good football teams.”
