Cedric Kipre deserves great credit for taking a big-money move to the Championship and Wigan Athletic ‘in his stride’.
That’s the verdict of Leam Richardson, who says the 21-year-old has been a revelation since his arrival from Motherwell 24 hours before the first game of the season.
“I have a joke with him every day in training telling him how he needs to sharpen up and defend better!” smiled the Latics assistant manager.
“But on a serious note, Cedric knows how we feel about him, and how pleased we are with his contribution.
“He came down from Scotland on the eve of the first game of the season, and was thrown into games against Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Stoke, Norwich, Swansea...big teams!
“He’s taken it all in his stride, and it’s great credit to him.
“I’m sure he’d be the first to deflect that praise on to the likes of Chey (Dunkley), Sammy (Morsy), the two full-backs, Christian (Walton)...and it’s been a great team effort so far. A lot of that comes from the gaffer as well on the training ground.
“He gives them all confidence to do what he wants them to, and scope to make positive mistakes, and not be afraid of letting the side down.
“As long as they can come off the field not having anything else to give, he’ll be all right with that.”
