SHAUN Maloney was the toast of Wigan Athletic after cleaning up at last night’s annual awards dinner.

The Scotland international won all three top awards after a quite superb campaign on a personal level.

Maloney was voted Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and the Away Player of the Year, picking up his gongs in front of a packed house at the South Stand Bar of the DW Stadium.

He said: “It’s a great honour to receive this from my team mates. It means a lot.

“This is not a big town but the fans are very supportive of the effort we put in.

“The players appreciate that.”

Club captain Gary Caldwell saluted his club and international team-mate, saying: “I played with Shaun at Celtic and he was a good player. Now he is a great player. He never drops his standards.”

Callum McManaman, second in the vote for Player of the Year, scooped the Young Player of the Year award, with Under-18 star Joey Johnson picking up the Michael Millett award.

Performance of the Season was last weekend’s FA Cup final victory, while the Golden Boot went to Arouna Kone for the 13 goals he plundered in his debut season at Wigan.

Fan of the Year went to the Latics support for their efforts during the season, which will culminate during Sunday’s final home game against Aston Villa and with the open-top bus tour on Monday.
